long overdue report: Delaware Furbowl 30

[Note: Unfortunately, I don't have time to write, process and upload photos like I used to. Sorry to say, life has been increasingly stressful this past year, especially this last week of December. I had visited Lake Tobias back in October and have some nice lion pictures from that visit, but will now probably skip that report altogether, as I just do not have the time to do it. But I definitely wanted to journal my birthday celebration (3 months ago), so here it is finally, better late than never!]

Delaware Furbowl 30 was held on September 24, 2011. This being my birthday weekend, I decided to go to this FurstState event to celebrate. While no one there knew that it was my birthday, I knew that being out and about with fursuiters at this quality event would be the ultimate birthday party.

Cici's Pizza

First stop was Cici's Pizza, at which I arrived at about 7:00pm. This place seemed to work well for the dinner portion of the furmeet. It was okay, it's just that it was just pizza... and salad... and pizza... and desserts made from pizza. There were brownies also. Nothing wrong with this, it was a buffet, but I was nervous to begin with which made it hard to eat much, so because of this I felt that I did not get my money's worth. Not the restaurant's fault, I was tense and anticipating the evening's coming agenda. I mainly went to the restaurant for fellowship anyway, I did not come with high expectations for a food feast. I will say that the attendant(s) that cleared the tables were very nice and polite, and that goes a long way.

Sometime by around 8:30pm I'm guessing, we trickled out one by one and headed over to the bowling alley. I was one of the last to leave the restaurant. Something seemed different on the main road, as I drove right past the bowling alley and never saw it even though I was carefully looking for it. It was dark outside too, which didn't help at all; ditto for the road construction/repair I apparently passed through. I made a 180 and almost missed the bowling alley again- I noticed it was almost invisible as I passed by it, dim and dark with no lighting (I don't think the sign lights anymore, probably aftermath of the wind damage from last winter). So, I finally arrived.

I still do not have a complete fursuit to complement my wonderful head, not even a tail, so I went as myself, which was very comfortable because as a plain human, I would be invisible, and be able to interact easily with others and also use my camera, which I utilize extensively at all meets and cons I attend.

DE FB30 registration desk

The competent registration desk crew efficiently gets you all set for bowling, and answers any questions you might have. And, I was wearing this cool T-shirt which had vector calculus equations on the back, and one of the guys at the registration desk (on the right in the dark shirt & red tie) recognized and correctly identified them- first person ever to do that since I've had this shirt! (Sorry this pic came out so blurry, but I'm including it here anyway).

Jani the cheetah

I was thrilled to spot Jani the cheetah at this meet, and later on I caught up to her and got my picture taken with her. Beautiful! She has some of the best looking paw pads I've seen on a fursuit. Erebos in the center, and Tyger? on the right.

Buster

Buster the German Shepherd was full of mischievous fun throughout the evening. Nice looking shepherd dog. Buster was friendly to me and made me feel very welcome at the meet. Yay, happy birthday to me! I like this fursuiter.

Scrubs

Scrubs bowling in our lane. Notice the fox plushie guarding the ball return.

Scrubs

Another shot of Scrubs, this time from the front. He's cute.

Tumma

I remember seeing Tumma at Anthrocon. Attractive wolf fursuit. Got my picture with him as well.

Little Wolf, James Ferret, Vin

Little Wolf, James Ferret, and Vin.

fursuiters

It's so much fun bowling with 'suiters around! I believe that's Jaga Grey Fox in the center, with the purple hair.

TLK bowling ball

Way cool Lion King themed bowling ball that belonged to someone bowling in the lane next to ours. Awww, I love it!

cardboard standup of Dwayne Johnson

Don't know the story behind it, but this cardboard standup of Dwayne Johnson was making its way around the meet, shown here trying on different fursuit heads. Earlier at the restaurant, it was at my table for a while. And to my surprise, I spotted it in a video just the other week, at the judges table at the MFF 2011 Dance Competition!

Andes and Hershey

Here's a fun cozy trio! Andes, Hershey, and ?

Once when it was my turn to bowl, there was a red pin in the front, and I got a strike! This earned me a certificate for a free bowling session, a fun souvenir prize to bring home from my birthday celebration!

DE FB30 fursuiters

Furbowl XXX fursuiters group shot, taken by me.

DE FB30 group

Furbowl XXX non-suiters group shot. To give proper credit, this picture was not taken by me- I borrowed it from Furst State on FA.

Vidan

Vidan- cute and expressive happy face.

Rave Lion

Rave Lion

A dark and glowy lion bowling in a nearby lane. This illuminated fursuit head is yet another product of Monoyasha's creative skills. Wow!

dog

Good looking dog, did not catch his name. The chest fur looks so cuddly!

Rick the Adventure Shepherd

Speaking of dogs, here's Rick the Adventure Shepherd. Really well-tailored fursuit; I hope mine fits this good when I eventually get it.

bowling scores

The scores from our lane from both games. I did rather well, I was happy with my scores- I got 107 in the 1st game, and 168 in the 2nd!

Thanks to all of you wonderful fursuiters, especially Jani and Buster, who made my birthday this year so happy and special. Fursuiters are my primary attraction to these meets, and you all make me so happy! Thanks for being you!

Because of its large number of attendees and well organized structure, I consider the Delaware Furbowl a mini-con. This is the third one I've attended to date, and I always have a good time. I expect I'll make it to about two or three of these meets per year. Special thanks to Kitt3ns, Reaux, and all the other fine individuals that use their organizational skills to put these meets together so smoothly! I'll be back!

I'm so glad you had a good time, we're still working on that mini-con bit. Hopefully you can get a little more to eat next time we host ya though!

Happy (3 month late) birthday Mr Leostar!
